Embracing Our Inner 8 Year Old

On Christmas Eve my husband and I and our two boys went out for a walk in the snow. We hadn’t gone 10 feet when one of the boys climbed up a snow bank and proceeded to catapult into headfirst somersaults. Then both boys stomped a short pathway in the snow and they took turns hurtling down it, competing to see who could do a twisting leap and land the furthest. One of them discovered a fence rail so they climbed up and tried to knock the other guy off balance.

These boys are grown men. They have full beards, pay taxes, can speak knowledgeably about string theory and the nuances of lentil varietals. But get them together outside and they act 8 years old.

Is it because of the snow? Or because that’s what siblings do? Or because it’s Christmas?

I’m not sure, but I sure love it.

Happy Holidays, may your year be full of happy playing.

(My husband confessed that his inner 8 year old really, really wanted to toss me in a snow bank. Luckily for me he didn’t listen……)
